Extract from the minutes of a meeting of the Cabinet 'Control of Emigration to Employment in Great Britain'

Dublin, 28 June 1946

Consideration was given to a memorandum dated 21st June, 1946 submitted by the Minister for Industry and Commerce1 relative to the control of emigration to employment in Great Britain. It was decided:

  1. that the war-time measures for the control of emigration to employment should be discontinued, in the case of women, as from the 1st July, 1946;
  2. that the Minister for Industry and Commerce should examine the question of the regulation and control of employment agencies.

It was understood that in accordance with normal peacetime practice, the consent of the applicant's parents or guardians would be required before the issue of travel permits in the case of persons under the age of 21.
