Code telegram from Frederick H. Boland to Robert Brennan (Washington DC)
(No. 298)

Dublin, 27 August 1946

Your 298 and 323 and New York's 241. Inconvenient as delay may be, it is better that we should not take any official action for the present on assumption of admission to UNO so as not to be in humiliating position if application fails. Taoiseach is keen on this. What he has in mind of course is official action, that is action by Legation and Consulates, but it would be well to mention the same consideration to Father O'Shea whose plan referred to in New York's 241 has otherwise Taoiseach's entire approval.1 Please inform Consulate General.
