Dearg code telegram from Frederick H. Boland to John J. Hearne (Ottawa)
(No. 77) (250/19)

Dublin, 9 November 1946

As you know candidatures for UNO are now under active consideration. T. is still anxious that we should be admitted feels we should be in closer touch with situation. If you can arrange it, he would like you to go to New York at once and by personal contacts and discussions with individual delegates advise us (a) what are prospects of agreement on new admissions being reached at present Assembly and (b) whether there is any action to be taken here to improve prospects of our admission. Lester is in New York and would no doubt help as regards contacts and otherwise. It would be well, of course, that your presence in New York should appear to have some other object and your attendance at meetings etc. to be purely casual. Informing Washington. Please wire probable time date arrival New York.
