Code telegram from William Warnock to Joseph P. Walshe (Dublin)
(No. 95S) (Personal) (Sent via Berne)

Berlin, 15 December 1940

New York reports on London visit of Northern Ireland Prime Minister1 quoted in the Press. Reports allege that Churchill discussed the question of Irish ports; it is also suggested this will be discussed at forthcoming secret session of Parliament on shipping.

Great success claimed in recent raids on Birmingham, Bristol, Sheffield. There is disappointment at war not yet concluded, but this does not mean discontent.

Small staff of this Legation is often commented on in view of the fact that people here consider that it is our most important representation at present, particularly as so much of interest happens here. Tendency of other missions is to increase staff. Foregoing also mentioned to me in private conversation by Foreign Office officials.
