Handwritten note by Nicholas Nolan

Dublin, 13 July 1951

Arising out of the discussion, at this morning’s meeting of the Government, on the question of the Great Northern Railway (file S.14573B refers) & in connexion with his forthcoming discussion with the Six-County Minister of Commerce1 on that question, the Tánaiste inquired informally of the Taoiseach whether he saw any objection to the appointment of a Trade Representative in Belfast. The Taoiseach said that he did not see any objection in principle to such a proposal but that he would like to see the proposal examined in all its aspects before any commitment is entered into in the matter.

1 William McCleery (1887-1957), Northern Ireland Minister of Commerce (1949-53).
