No. 497 NAI DFA/5/313/31/B
London, 26 November 1956
The [British] Government is placed in a somewhat awkward position by the United Nations Assembly resolution of the 24th instant reiterating the request to Britain, France and Israel forthwith to withdraw their forces from Egyptian territory. While there is a lack of precision as to the exact conditions which the Government would like to see fulfilled before withdrawal, these certainly go much further than anything the United Nations envisage.
