No. 469 NAI DFA Unregistered Papers
Dublin, 7 November 1930
The 'Irish Times' of today contains the text of a long protest signed by the Primate of Armagh and the Protestant Archbishop of Dublin on behalf of the Protestant minority in the Irish Free State, setting out:-
| (1) | that the right of appeal to the Privy Council is the only safeguard the minority has; |
| (2) | that the present Government may not always be in office, and, if the right is now abolished, their last safeguard would be removed; |
| (3) | referring to a deputation which waited on the President in 1929 in which a statement was presented giving their views; and finally, protesting against any question of Great Britain consenting to any limitation of the constitutional 'rights granted by the Treaty and secured by Article 66 of the Constitution'. |
