With reference to the question of the Dublin vacancy the Minister1 had of his own accord impressed very strongly on the Holy Father that the present critical state of affairs had made it more than ever urgent that the appointment in question should be made. This in fact was the main purpose of the Audience. In these circumstances it is certain that any further pressure would give offence.
