Holy See, 25 September 19401

Following is confidential and urgent for Walshe:-

In view of rumours from two Vatican sources concerning Galway and Dublin saw substitute this morning and pressed for pre-publication information as a _____2 and very special case. Holy Father at this season is available to Heads of Missions desiring audiences and substitute thought that I should make this request of him. Please cable at once if you desire me to ask for audience and instruct me what to say. It would be desirable also to let me have information regarding general situation in Ireland and position regarding Minister as I am likely to be questioned as to both.
