Dearg code telegram from Joseph P. Walshe to Thomas J. Kiernan (Holy See)
(No. 92) (Immediate)

Dublin, 29 December 1945

When you see Holy Father you should say Government and Irish people are pained and disappointed that Ireland was omitted from recent appointments. You could again remind Holy Father of Ireland's immense importance in the growth of Catholicism in the English-speaking countries, especially in the United States where our omission has been commented on even by purely secular Press. New York Times, for instance, says, 'One noteworthy omission from list is Ireland', and Lowell Thomas, NBC commentator on radio 'One strange omission is Ireland. One wonders why.'
