No. 124 NAI DFA Secretary's Files A7
Dublin, 23 May 1946
Dear Dan,
I regret the delay in replying to your letter (G2/X/0703-0375) of the 16th April,1 regarding Marschner.2 We are definitely of the opinion that his application to be allowed to return to Germany should not be granted.
Marschner is quite clearly a man of little character, and he is just the sort of person who might try to ingratiate himself with the Allied authorities by making false statements about German activities here during the war. Some people are still looking for that sort of material to use against us. An example of the kind of mischief Marschner would be likely to do is his statement to you that the German Legation were informed beforehand of his arrival here. We are satisfied from enquiries we have made that that statement is false.
