The attached letter¹ was received in the Taoiseach's Department and, so far, has not been acknowledged. I doubt if it calls for a dissertation on 'status'. Personally I think it is incorrect to say that Canada 'has a great deal more to do with England than Éire (has)', when one thinks of our monopolistic cross-channel trade and the constant flow of passenger traffic between the neighbouring islands. Historically, of course, and in consequence politically, it is clear that Canada as an ex-British Colony must cherish certainties with the Motherland by which Ireland, as a Mother country herself, was never bound. But this is the kind of thing you can formulate much better yourself[.]
