No. 94 NAI DFA Ottawa Embassy DI/3/3
Ottawa, 29 June 1948
[matter omitted]
First of all, there is the question of your being the guest of the Governor General for a day or two. I see no way out of this that you would desire me to take. Mr. St. Laurent mentioned it as a matter of course during our first conversation on the subject of your visit. It is so much the normal thing for a Prime Minister to stay with His Excellency that if we suggested a departure in your case it might not be understood. I know how you feel about this; but, a Thaoisigh, it would only mean residence at Government House for a day or two. If a suitable opportunity offers to arrange otherwise I shall certainly take it, but it would, I think, be inappropriate for me to take the initiative.
