The Irish Government notes with deep concern that the permission sought to enable a representative of the Irish Government to see His Eminence Cardinal Mindszenty has not yet been granted. As already indicated to Your Excellency the arrest of His Eminence Cardinal Mindszenty has caused a grave feeling of anxiety in Ireland. From our own experience in the history of Ireland the denial of access to prisoners has usually had grave implications. In these circumstances the withholding of or the delay in granting the permission sought creates profound apprehension. Accordingly the Irish Government anxiously awaits a reply.
