Extract from minutes of a meeting of the Executive Council (C.2/227)

DUBLIN, 21 November 1925

BOUNDARY.

Dr. MacNeill tendered to the Executive Council his resignation as a member of the Irish Boundary Commission in the following terms:-

'21st November, 1925,1

President.

I request the Executive Council to accept my resignation of my position as Irish member of the Irish Boundary Commission as I foresee no likelihood of an award in the terms of the Treaty'.

(sd) EOIN MACNEILL'.

After a full statement from Dr. MacNeill of the reasons for his action his resignation from the Commission was approved:-

'Dr. MacNeill has tendered to the Executive Council his resignation as a member of the Irish Boundary Commission. The resignation has been accepted.'

1 This version of MacNeill's letter of resignation contains a number of differences and additions to the original reproduced above in facsimile (No. 340). McNeill's original text is here conflated with that in the Executive Council Minutes. Additions to the original letter are in bold and excisions in italics.

'I request the Executive Council to accept my resignation of the (my) position of (as) (Irish) member of the Irish Boundary Commission since (as) I foresee no likelihood of an award in accord with the terms of the Treaty.'
