Last heavy air raid 3rd September did a certain amount of damage to factories in north side of city. As usual, civil population suffered most.

Many people (including most diplomats) sleep outside city, but that is not altogether safe either because raiding aircraft unload surplus bombs on outskirts and approaches when turning for home.

Now that first shock has passed, population is calmly accepting the inevitable, but of course everybody is anxious regarding future. Pessimism as to outcome of war is expressed on all sides. Some people even suggest it cannot go on much longer, but general view is that Germany is still very strong and that no prophecy should be made until position of Italy has been made clear.
