Code telegram from Frederick H. Boland to Joseph P. Walshe (Paris)
(No. 232)

Dublin, 1 October 1945

Visit announced in Saturday morning's papers. Cabinet decided McElligott should not go. Only Lemass and Leydon travelling. Principal subjects for discussion air development, petrol coal and tea supplies and in a very general way future trade relations. I read Taoiseach portion of your letter of 20th regarding attitude of officials.1 He was delighted that you went for Stevenson and is inclined to blame Dulanty for not doing the same but he entirely agrees your view that removal or side-stepping of hostility of Dominions Office officials is a major interest. I gave Dulanty text of your report of conversation with Secretary of State. I did not repeat not give him report of conversation with Stevenson.
